5. DESIGN AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
5.1. Operating features of the IZH-43K Shotgun meet the requirements imposed for modern hunting weapon. The shotgun is simple in design and safe in handling.
5.2. The gun is provided with double side-by-side barrels. Barrel bore choke portions allow tight patterning. The reliable double
locking system works on lumps. The locking system is operated by a lever located atop the receiver. The shotgun is unlocked by turning the lever to the left.
5.3. The removable forend is attached by means of a lever-type catch.
5.4. Fired cases are withdrawn by means of the extractor on opening the barrel.
5.5. The parts of the firing mechanism are arranged inside the receiver and on the trigger plate attached to the receiver bottom. Rebounding hammers can be put in half-cock position. The firing pins are made integral with the hammers. The mainsprings are of cylindrical spiral form. The hammers are cocked and mainsprings are compressed under the action of the exposed cocking levers when the barrels are closed.
5.6. The safety locks the triggers (with the safety button in rear position). The safety allows strikeless release of the hammers. To make this feature operative, push the safety button forward and holding the cocking levers, press the triggers and then move the cocking levers smoothly to the front position. Release the triggers putting the hammers in half-cock position.
5.7. Special lugs on the triggers hold the shotgun from firing if the barrels are not closed completely.
6. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
6.1. Always consider your shotgun as loaded and ready for shooting.
6.2. Do not fire the cartridges which service pressure exceeds the value specified in the Certificate.
6.3. Do not fire the slug which body diameter is larger than the diameter of barrel bore choke portion.
7. MAINTENANCE
7.1. Proper handling and maintenance extend the service life of the shotgun and ensure its trouble-free functioning. Do not disassemble the shotgun completely if there is no need in it.
7.2. Prior to disassembly make sure that the chamberes are free from cartridges. If there are cartridges inside the chambers, remove them.
7.3. For maintenance (inspection,cleaning and lubrication) disassemble the shotgun partially removing the forend with hindge, barrels and receiver with stock.
7.4. Disassemble the shotgun completely only in case of urgency. In disassembly/ assembly follow the directions of this Certificate.
7.5. Complete disassembly is carried out in the following way, (Fig. I):
1) release the hammers 32, 42, detach the buttplate from the stock 25, remove the screw 58, bushing 57, connecting screw 21 and detach the stock from the receiver. Remove the trigger guard 64 by undoing the screw 65;
2) remove the screws 61 and 63, detach the threaded connecting piece 51, trigger plate 62 with springs 67 from the receiver. To detach the hammers undo the screws 45 and 48, then by tapping on the cocking levers 43, 54 drive them out. Remove the bushings 70 arranged between the hammers and cocking levers. Drive out the sear pin 30, remove the sears 31, 44, hammers 32, 42 and rod assemblies 36, 37 from the receiver;
3) disassemble the safety mechanism by removing the pin 39;
4) prior to removement of the locking bolt 47 from the receiver, drive the pin 39 out, remove the cam 38, spring 49 together with cam stop 50 and screw 40, and then by tapping on the locking bolt lever 52 push it down through the square opening in the locking lever 41;
5) remove the triggers 66, 68 by driving the pin 69 out and removing the trigger spring 67.
7.6. Disassembly procedure for the remaining parts (including the forend assy) is simple and does not require special description, as it consists in driving out and undoing the corresponding pins and screws.
7.7. Assembly is accomplished in reverse order.
